Question:

I have a 1996 chevy z71 extended cab, with push button 4x4. The lights on the buttons go solid 1/2 the time.?

  1. If the lights flash momentarily the go back to the previous selection, you may have a loose wire or bad actuator on the t-case. Your t-case may be binding internally and the actuator cannot actuate the shifting assembly.

    The actuator on the front axle is not the problem. The buttons will show 2wd 4wd whatever without the front axle actuator working. So your problem lies with the t-case, or the wiring going to the case.

    If the light(s) just go out for no reason, then you could have a loose plug on the button, poor common ground, or bad or loose light inside the buttons. I have never looked closely to the buttons, so I can't tell you if the bulb is replaceable.  


  2. the most common fault and easiest to repair is the switch (buttons) have it replaced.
