Question:

I have a 1997 Ford Thunderbird and overfilled the transmission fluid. Is there a drain plug to drain it?

I overfilled the transmission on my 97 Thunderbird, and it's stuttering and stalling, and I think it may have something to do with it. As far as I know I will probably have to remove the transmission pan to drain any excess fluid, but I'm hoping there is a drain plug I don't know about, or an easier way. Anything helps, thanks!

  1. no drain plug but the easy way to do this is go to the parts store and buy a siphon hose with pump they dont cost much, then remove dipstick and put the hose down the tube into transmission and pump out what you need to.

  2. drop the pan.

or you could disconnect the tranny line running to the radiator.

  3. No drain plug, I would take a line off and drain some out by starting the vehicle.

  4. Stick a tube down the fill tube and hook up a pump to it.

    Take fluid out that way.

  5. nope trans pan

  6. you have to drop the pan, no easier way sorry man

  7. nope, no drain plug. if you overfilled it, take off 1 of the lines from the radiator, unplug the coil(so it wont start), put the line in a jar and have someone crank the enginme, when its pumped out what you think is enough, put the line back on. i did that several times.

  8. no. You will have to loosen the pan bolts a bit and let some pour out...make sure you catch it.

  9. NO DRAIN PLUG BUT YOU CAN USE A HAND PUMP AND A HOSE SMALL ENOUGH TO GO DOWN THE FILLER TUBE AND DRAW IT BACK OUT . BY HAND PUMP I MEAN LIKE YOU WOULD USE TO PUMP TIRE SEALER FROM A GALLON JUG INTO A  TIRE.  IF YOU GET THE DRIFT.
