I have a 1997 mitsubishi eclipse rs. It doesnt have a factory amp under the passenger seat. whereCould it be

Are there any other places it could be? I replaced the head unit and there is the cable for an amp but it all the speakers work with out it. mabey it didnt come with an amp?

  1. I don't think the Mitsubishi came with an AMP. If you bought the car used the person before you might have installed one. i would try to trace the wire you think was to an AMP. There should be a power wire and A remote wire that would connect an amp from the stereo.

    The remote wire would turn the amp on when you powered up the car power is obvious.


  2. your aftermarket wiring harness probally bypasses the amp, check uner the dash by the stearing wheel and where the cd player goes, sometimes their pretty small, like half the size of a headunit.  

  3. If all the speakers play without the "amp" cable plugged in, then it's not an amp cable.  The only place I've seen a factory amp in those vehicles is under the passenger seat.  

  4. If an external amp isn't under the front passenger seat and all of the speakers work, you probably didn't have one.

    I think the upgraded audio package was done post production, at the dealer. The wiring would all be there. But, The amp would be installed later.
