I've replaced thermostat, impeller, circulator pump, checked the temp gauge, and even had a mechanic hook up his external temp gauge. Same thing--100 degrees. Today I ran it for an hour in the lake, and felt the hoses--they were very cool. I don't think its a big problem, but I can't figure out why it doesn't run at normal temp. Any ideas?

  1. who cares......better cool them hot

  2. To tell you the truth there is nothing wrong with under cooling. If you have replaced everything in the cooling system, then do worry about it. I have a 5.7 liter in my boat though it runs hottter than 100 it does not run at 160 either. Have to remember that marine engines are going to run somewhat cooler anyway than there auto counterpart because in autos the cooling system is a "closed loop" system. Where the same water is constantly being circulated and depending on a single radiator to disperse the heat. Where as in a marine application most of the time, though not all the time, you dont have a "radiator" so to speak circulating the same water. You will always have fresh water being circulating thoughout the engine for which is always going to be cooler all the time. So dont sweat it. As long as its cooling I would not worry. Just go out there and have fun.

  3. What's the problem? Running 100 degrees is a good thing. She'll warm up a little when the water temp goes up.
