  1. No,don't do it.It would be dangerous to leave a strange kitten unattended with an adult cat. The cat could injure or even kill the kitten, not to mention the trouble the kitten could get into in a strange house.Wait until you get back so you can supervise and keep an eye on the kitten. Just make sure to leave enough food and water for your cat,and have someone come in to check on him if possible.

  2. For now I would try to have a trusted friend or family member stop in a few times a day to check in on him, but I wouldn't introduce a new kitty while you are gone.  You need to be home when you bring in the new pet, to act as a referee when they meet (and have a few hissing sessions!)  Even if your kitty is lonely and would benefit from a companion, there will be an adjustment period and you need to be home to support both kitties as they fall into that new routine.  I definitely recommend another kitty as a companion for your lonely boy.

  3. I would wait until you get back before getting a new kitten. Kittens need to be on a set schedule and you going away will mess it up. Also you need to introduce them slowly. You can not just bring the kitten home and put it in front of your current cat.

Maybe hire a pet sitter to spend some time with your cat while you are away.

  4. I think you're much better off finding someone to take care of the one you've got while you're away - getting a new kitten and leaving it immediately isn't very responsible.

The fact that your one kitty you already have is lonely is the reason most rescues will only place two at a time - they need friends.  While I agree you will need another when you get back, for now, please just take that one to your vet's for a few days so they can take good care of her.

Kitties get into trouble when they don't have supervision, and some of the trouble can make them very sick.  Better to keep her out of trouble until you get back.

  5. well, if you are going to get a new kitten, DONT get the new kitty right before you leave, get it for a little while and watch them together before you leave, say for a couple of weeks, to make sure that they will get along, because if you dont, your old kitty may hurt your new kitty while you are away...so please, make sure you give them enough time to adjust to eachother and in front of you before you leave, you dont want the new kitty to get hurt if you are away.

  6. I agree that you need to be there an monitor them together when they first meet. Your older cat may HATE the kitten at first!

Instead, you should take your kitty to a kennel to be boarded instead during your vacation.

  7. No, he is already going to be upset that you are gone. Don't add fuel to the fire by bringing in a kitten. Make sure that someone is there to check on him and that he has plenty of food and fresh water.

  8. I would advise you to not get a new cat before you leave.  If your current cat is very attached to you, throwing a new cat in the mix might upset him and stress him out.  Because if you're home and there's a new kitten running around he'll be able to come to you for comfort. Cats generally take a while to get used to each other regardless of their age so it would probably be in the best interests of your kitty if you were home with him when you introduced a new kitten.  He would probably do much better alone than with a new kitten.

I hope this helps you and your kitty!

  9. No Way!  You need to be there to make sure they get along.  You can't just throw two cats together and hope for the best.  You need to make sure they get along and that the new cat uses the litter box and eats and drinks.

  10. It might be a good idea, but get the new one just before you leave because you need to be sure they get along. Hope this helps!
