I have been off work for 3 months and am just getting back. Daycare is $180/wk. How are you supposed to provide for children when you have to pay all that for daycare? What kills me is that there are people that don't work and get over on the system.

  1. Yes, you make too much.  Supposedly the government like to help people who won't get out and work.  I personally would not take the government assitance, but it drives me crazy that people will sit at home and collect government handouts.  I know there are people out there who truly need the assistance and I have no problem with that, however when I see a 2 year old left in the car at a 7-11 and the mother inside buying a bottle of Dr. Pepper and a candy bar with food stamps...it's a little frustrating!

I would shop around a little more.  I have no idea where you live, but there are places that are less expensive.  My son goes to an at home daycare and I'm thoroughly impressed.    They are also only $110/week.

  2. What system are you referring too? There is no system that I know of that would pay a parent for their child care needs while they go off and work... at least not that I know off in my state. Besides you make quite a lot for yourself you shouldn't be complaining too much. Most people who end up needing assistance are provided with those assistance's because they make half of your income or even less. Some really do need the assistance which could either be short term or long, but for those who doesn't and abuse it those are the ones I frown upon.

  3. Why dont you look in the paper for childcare and see if you can find someone who keeps kids at home, just until you figure something out. They dont charge that much, its anywhere from 60 a week and up and some do by the day or by the hour.

  4. Have you tried a local church day care. They r usually a lot cheaper. I am so sorry that u r going through that. I know what u mean. Bums get everything in this country!

  5. You do realize that you fall well within the median income bracket, right? I'm also pretty sure that for the 3 months you didn't work you got something, like unemployment? Also did you not know before having your child that you would have to pay someone to care for your child if you worked outside the home? Yes, I'm sure there are some people out there cheating the system and "us" , but the vast majority of people believe in hard work and taking care of themselves and a lot of people do it on much less then you make.

  6. welcome to the working poor! we make too much for help but too little to get by!

  7. WOW 37,000 a year?  I know you have been off work and all but still I would love to make that money.  No offense, but when I made just 20,000 and had two kids I qualified for daycare assistance but I refused because in my heart, I knew it was wrong for someone else to pay my way through life.  I am sorry you haven't been able to work until now.  Good Luck!

  8. You have one kid and make $37,000 a year and I should help you pay for day care?

Believe me - everyone of those people you think get over on the system would be glad to have your income and they wouldnt need any help with their child care either.
