  1. I would check with his doctor. But, expect to hear the doctor say, you don't need to worry.

My brother didn't talk until he was 3. My mom worried herself sick, thinking something was wrong with him. Then one day, he started talking and wouldn't stop. There were many times, I can  remember my mother requesting: "5 minutes without a sound. JUST 5 MINUTES!"

I would venture to say your son is fascinated with dogs. You could read him books about dogs. They'll help build vocabulary, and keep this attention.

You can also talk to him, as much as you can. Talk until your sick of talking. Talk about what you are doing.  Ask him open ended ended questions.  These are questions that require more than a 'yes' or 'no' response.

Instead of asking, "Do you want breakfast?" replace the question with, "What should we have for breakfast?" - Even if your son doesn't answer it will get his mind thinking.

  2. my son will be 2 Friday and he does not talk much either. talk to his doctor i am going to have someone come out and work on my son speech.

  3. Talk to the pediatrician. My son's ped referred us to a speech therapy program to help him out. They were great, they've helped us out and we didn't have to pay anything for it.

  4. ohh.. well whenever your son is around, repeat a word over and over again. and point to the object your saying, then he;ll get the hang of it.

  5. Yeah, discuss his behaviors with his Pediatrician and definitely read to him.   His motor skills are just off. He'll catch up. Does he go to nursery or is he able to be around other children because that always gets them stimulated and peer pressure among toddlers will get him talking and reacting in child play periods.  If you can, as a treat maybe once or twice a week,  set a play date or see if there are some other moms in the area who can swap off a day and you keep each other's children for a 1/2 day and I guarantee you he'll come around.  Then you'll wish he'd be quiet after a while.  he just needs to be around other children.

  6. my 24 month old is the same exact way as you describe. But he says "cookie" which is the dog's name. Some kids are just slower at talking.

  7. At two years of age, a child should have an expressive vocabulary of at least 50 words. He should also be consistently combining two words in phrases and imitating three-word phrases easily. Your child's skills might indicate a moderate delay.

He is two, therefore he may qualify to receive free speech therapy through the federal program known as EARLY INTERVENTION. You may call any agency in your area. They will arrange for your child to receive a full speech-language evaluation.

The earlier you begin to stimulate his language, the better. The last thing anyone wants is to have a preschooler who still cannot effectively communicate. Take advantage of the services while they are available. You will not regret it. :)

  8. Read a lot to him out loud.  Have his hearing checked.  My son did not talk forever either, then one day he started and would not  quit.

  9. my cousin didnt start talking really till she was 3 so yeah its different for everyone

  10. i went to my local health dept and they have a program for kids that are on the delayed said. speech/activities..ect. its called First Steps. Its free and they come to your home.
