Question:

I have a 2 yr old cat that stays in my kitchen

He sits in a corner and won't move unless he wants to eat. He used to stay right by my side including going to bed with me. After my daughters cat ran off (we had that one for about 2 mths) is when my cat started stayin in the kitchen and anytime I try and bring him out he will run back there..not sure what to do Help pls..

  1. He sounds frightened or sick. I would take him to the vet and have him checked out.His behaviour is definitely not normal.


  2. Are you SURE this started after the other cat left?

    Cats are territorial.  They mark their territory by rubbing their faces and bodies against hard surfaces.  (Everyone is familiar with urine spraying, I'll skip that).  They renew the scent often and will keep strictly to their "boundaries".

    I think in the last few days the newcomer was with you, your cat formed a territory in the kitchen and doesn't realize it's "safe" to come out.

    What to do?

    Consider cleaning all hard surfaces from knee level, down.  Use a pet cleaner that has enzymes that will eliminate the smells.  Wash everything that fits in the washer.  Spray odor destroyers on furniture.

    Rub your cat down with clean towels.  Leave "trails" of these towels through the house so the cat can smell them.  Gradually, your cat's smell will over power the newcomer's and he'll settle down again.
