  1. Drop the gas tank, check connections. If you have a clean connection, pull the pump/sending unit assembly.  Check the sending unit.  You can test resistance by moving the float up and down.  Replace as needed.

If everything checks out under the car, go to the cluster. It could be a faulty gage.  You get to pull the cluster.

Get a Chilton's, or Haynes manual. Read up on it first.

Otherwise, watch your mileage, and fill up every 200-250 miles.

  2. there is a sender module behind the climate control / radio, it can be reached without removing the radio, under the dash it is a small black thing with a number on it and one bolt holdin it on it has five wires connected into it via a plug.  this is a five minute fix and about $60.00  vs $250  for the sending unit plus labor or what ever else the mechanic will s***w you with the cost of.

you will probably have to order it from your nearest dealership

  3. It sounds like the float is damaged.  The ball float (I believe it's connected to the fuel pump.  It is in Chevy's anyway) can get stuck in one position, and won't tell you when the fuel level drops.  It's a cheap fix if you know someone with a garage.  If not, a mechanic can s***w you over and try to tell you the whole pump is bad.  DON'T FALL FOR IT!

  4. To repair it I think the gasoline tank must be removed.  My p/u was that way.  When I found out the cost of repair I learned to estimat the miles it would travel on a full tank of gasoline a fill it when I had driven half of the sum.
