It did this about 1 month ago and stopped. It doesn't always start clicking right away. Not even 100,000 yet and oil is changed every 3000 - 5000 miles. Also, my oil pressure was acting funny when it started making this noise. Now my oil pressure is fine, but the noise is still there (although not as loud).

  1. Sounds like you have bad or dirty lifters.

  2. This is common in the GM engines. It simply means that a lifter is slow to build up oil pressure and makes a ticking noise until it does. A lot of people are using an additive to help the problem. Myself, I used slick 50 and it stopped within a week. Suggest you let it warm up a bit to allow the lifter to build pressure, this will reduce unwanted wear. Once the additive kicks in, drive it normally.

  3. probably tappets.

are you using the correct grade of oil?

it might be worth throwing a bottle of lifter free into the motor and see if it quietens down.

  4. i have a 2000 that does the same thing when cold... i think its just normal from factory..

  5. Oil pump is likely the cause, but the damage may not be limited to just that.  Lack of oil pressure can be detrimental.  Ticking noise is from valves, have them checked along with the oil pump.

  6. sounds like the motor is shot, id sell it asap and get a new vehicle
