  1. Chad, I used to have a 85HP Evinrude on a 18' Fleetwing that would do 45mph. However, I found that top speed was the thing that I was LEAST interested in, as I never ran at 100% power. The most I would normally do was 80% power, which gave me about 37MPH. Going at 100% did increase my speed by 8MPH

    but doubled my gas consumption.

It sounds like you could go faster by using a prop with more pitch. I suggest that you visit your local Merc dealer and see what there is to see.

Keep in mind some other things. Do you pull skiers? Other boats? Is speed everything to you?

    Good luck.

  2. thats up to you dude,,,, no one can tell you what you want,,, i can say thats pretty fast, and you may want lesser pitch if you are going out in rough sea and or carrying other people .. as it is,,, the engine will be working hard and wont have much power in a following sea, and will be using more fuel

  3. Hopefully, you have a tachometer on the boat.  If you are turning 5000 to 5400 RPM at wide open throttle, you are probably maxed out.  You may get a little more speed in calmer water by trimming the bow up slightly.  If you are turning under 5000 rpm at wide open throttle, the pitch on your prop is too high, take it to a prop reconditioning shop and have it  it repitched to the next LOWER size.  If you are turning over 5400 rpm at wide open throttle,  have the prop shop INCREASE the pitch to the next higher size.  Good luck!

  4. I would suggest a 19 for a good all around performance. Give me a( rpm at w.o.t ) and current pitch, We'll look for the sweet spot. Prop identification is on the inside of prop hub facing the lower unit. That fisher / Bass Tracker is made by Tracker Marine.
