  1. This is most likely valve noise. On the V-Star's this is normal. (As long as it's not excessive.) It took awhile for me to get used to it. Everything I learned about valves kept telling me I shouldn't be hearing them make noise. But...everyone kept telling me it was normal on these bikes.

So, after 25,000 miles on mine it still makes noise but I don't even notice it anymore. In fact when it was time to adjust the valves they didn't make any more, or less, noise to indicated they needed adjusting.

I would keep an ear on them for awhile and make sure it doesn't get worse (louder).  They should just barely tap and it should only be loud enough that you really only notice it when your trying to hear it. Or you stick your head near the engine. Or when your running low RPM's / slow speed so your quiet.

  2. take it to your dealer for your 1000 mile service .    the service tech  will check the bike over, adjust valves, etc.  My dealer gave me a free 1000 mile when I bought mine . My 1100 still ticks with 10,000 mile on it.
