I have a 2007 ford f150 4x4 4.6L efi v8 with the trailer tow package. It says its gvwr is 6900 lbs. I also have a 2008 pioneer travel trailer 29'. I plan on doing some traveling this summer but want to make sure my truck can do it safely. The trailers gvwr is 7500 lbs and its gross dry weight is 4591 lbs. The ford dealer said its fine and also did the trailer salesmen. But im not sure if they just wanted the sale or what. I thank anyone who could help me out here.

  1. You will be fine as long as the the trailer has some type of electric braking system.

  2. Yes, it is perfectly fine to tow the trailer. No need to contact DOT. However, a few pointers. As mentioned, give yourself plenty of distance for stopping and sudden emergencies. Also, NEVER tow anything in overdrive, and use the tow/haul mode if eqipped. Failure to follow that last, very important tip will cost you a transmission. Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems at all.

  3. Should be fine.  I used to pull my 6800lb boat/trailer with my dodge dakota which was only rated for 6000lbs.  Never had a problem.  Just leave yourself a little extra stopping room when you drive.

  4. The GVWR you are refering to is for the loaded truck. with the trailer you are adding more axles to support the weight and brakes on the trailer(if you have a brake controller). owners manual should list 'towing' capacity. remember the extra weight increasses stopping distance even with extra brakes.

  5. F-150 has been proven to be able to tow a caravan of any sort, so I think it shouldn't be a problem with the "mobile home" of yours.

It's a sad fact to learn that you can hardly get Manual RHD (Right-Hand Drive) for a Ford F-150, because I love rallies and I've learnt that Ford F-150 is a good one for such! Also, I've been driving manual for years, so I prefer the control on a manual transmission than an auto. Surprising fact: I drive safer in a Manual compared to an Auto!!!

  6. I would call D.O.T. Dept. 0f Transportation

  7. Your owners manual will answer your question. Make sure your truck has the proper weight hitch on it and do hook up an electric brake controller if it's not already installed.

Any RV Dealer can tell you for sure.
