Question:

I have a 2008 altima 2.5 SL. i was wondering why it is giving me such bad gas mileage when it shouldn't?

its brand new. and has a 20 gallon tank and is listed to get 23/32 mpg. on one full tank im only getting about 350-400 miles. when i should be getting around 460-600.. can you give me any tips? should i get my car checked?

maybe i should put mid grade gas? any tips would be appreciated.

  1. When you first get a car you have to break in the motor for the first 3-5000 miles.  After that the gas mileage will get better.  Are you driving around town more also that is worse and it depends on how you drive.  The ratings arent very accurate though because that is when somebody is driving really slow.


  2. My little Versa is the same.  Estimated 30/36 mpg, doesn't come anywhere near it.  I noticed that Nissan lowered the mileage estimates for the '08 model year (I have an '07) but my car isn't even getting that.

    It still does very well, but it's just not what I was promised.  If I'd have known, I'd have bought a bigger car.
