My daughter is 3 1/2 years old and is starting to not want to take afternoon naps unless she's really tired! Is that about right or should I keep making her take naps and until how old? It's hard because I have a 2 year old daughter and they sleep in the same room and then the 3 year old keeps the 2 year old up!

  1. I would have her have a quiet time if she no longer naps give her a quiet spot somewhere else in house that she could quietly read books or watch a movie or just play low key games but she must remain there for whatever length of time you set my son likes that and almost 1/2 the time he fell asleep but he liked the fact it wasn't called a nap.

    Good Luck

  2. Try to have her stop taking a nap and see what happens.  She might end up going to bed a little earlier if she misses her naps.

  3. she doesnt have to take a nap if you dont want her to especially if she doesnt seem cranky or anything...some kids just dont like to sleep, lol.

My son STILL takes a nap and he is 6 but he just loves to sleep, lol and my 4 yr old used to fight her naps everyday until I just said "okay, already" and now I just kinda have a quiet time for her where she just needs to chill out...its totally up to you though!

  4. I don't think you should make her keep taking a nap.  I have five children, two took naps until they were 5, three of them stopped by age 3.  You will know when she's tired and needs a nap, but don't force her.  No one is benefiting by doing that.

  5. The afternoon nap is done when school starts (a few months before you can start making her nap shorter). Kids are very tired; they go go go all day long. They say kids need about 10 hours of sleep in a day/night.

  6. Some children this age still need a nap and others don't.

I have a hard time getting my 3 1/2 year old to take a nap unless I *really* wear him out beforehand, that always works though.  : )

  7. Well if she is not tired I would not make her go to sleep. But try putting her in a different room and make her "rest" meaning she doesn't have to go to sleep, but she needs to rest her body. And that way she is running around. Also so she doesn't wake her sibling. I would have her do this up to about 4 and half. Just because our body does need a little break.

I hope that helps. Good luck.
