This is my first time I owned a boat and the only thing that I did was treat the gas. I now have water coming out the right side of the boat could it be a freeze plug and if not and it turns out that i have crack block would the engine still be able to run?

  1. I would spend some time looking up winterization or take it to a local boat shop next winter and save yourself some costs and heartache.

A freeze plug could have jumped out- YOU HOPE, or more likely than that the block & water inside of it froze up and cracked the iron block.

Crawl around and try to find out where the water is coming from...If water is now mixing with the oil you've got serious problems and most likely this motor cannot be saved without investing more than its actual worth.

If oil is water-free, I've heard of people being able to weld the cast iron blocks and repairing cracks--dont quote me on this, just call around (repair shops) and see what you hear!

Worst case scenarios, the engine is shot and needs to be replaced...life isnt over, you'll need to work some overtime this year!

  2. start the motor this spring. check oil if you have water in oil motor is shot. if no water in oil. fill out side crack with liquid steel . check to make sure doesn't over heat.

  3. If the block is cracked and probley is. Since marine engines, freash water cooled ones. The cooling system is not pressurized. Like an auto engine is. If the water is coming out from the side of the engine block. There probley isn;'t any internal damage. Buy a service manual for your marine engine. Winterize it the correct way in the fall. There is a product called JB weld that will repair the crack in your block. Its a 2 part expoxy and very strong if you follow the directions

  4. Hopefully it's just a freeze plug. If it turns out to be a cracked block, I wouldn't run it.

  5. check to see if the frost plugs have been pushed out and water around them. Look for cracks around heads and block. Do not run like this. Next year flush anti freeze thru engine before storage.. $$$$$
