What's the best way? It's really only about 4 inches wide but about 5 feet tall.

  1. The length is not a problem.  The maximum size is 108" length and girth (circumference) combined.  You will need to use a heavy fiberboard tube or a heavy plastic tube.  Then just follow these rules...

(From the Domestic Mail Manual, DMM 601.3.3)

    a. The length must not exceed 10 times the girth.

    b. When using friction slide closures as end caps, reinforce closures by encircling all seams with tape. Crimped or taped end closures are acceptable only for lightweight rolled items (such as posters or charts).

    c. The strength of the tube ends must be at least equal to the tube sidewall strength, unless the contents are lightweight rolled items.

    d. Sidewall strength of tubes must be equal to solid fiberboard that is:

    3. At least 5/32 inch thick for tubes more than 32 inches long.

    (end DMM info)

Be sure to add padding so that the mic boom doesn't shift within the tube and possibly break through one end.

If the tube is 66 inches long when ready to mail, then the tube must be at least 6.6 inches in circumference, preferably a bit more.

  2. Check with your local post office to see if

they will ship a package that long.

If not then you will have to use Fedex - UPS -

    or some other cartage company.

A lot of these services charge oversize

charges if a package is over a certain

length, so call around for the best price.

Also try to put the mic boom in a  cardboard

tube with stuffing to protect it.

    Take care.
