Is there anything else I can do. Other people tell me that she will cry herself to sleep eventually.

  1. Give her a hot water bottle ( you can use pop bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in towels,) a stuffed animal and a ticking clock ( the wind-up kind.) This will make the puppy feel like it is with it's mom and littermates. I had a 3 week old pup once, and this is how I soothed her, plus she would have a bottle twice in the middle of the night!

  2. Five weeks? Did you adopt her or is she one of your dog's pups? No puppy can or should legally be adopted out before 8 weeks.

  3. Yeah...that's a tough one.....When you watch TV or something like that put him/her in the crate beside you....if you are having a bath..same thing ! If you are reading in bed same thing....just get the little fella used to it ! Good idea to do a backyard stint or walk so he/she is tired also ! Good luck and stay with it....I know they have Bambi eyes but be tough...it'll pay in the long run ! *S* Hope that helps !

  4. a five week old puppy should still be with its mother.

  5. Most puppies do this.

But if you want your puppy an inside dog. Well i suggest putting it to sleep in an enclosed room ( by it self ) with some soothing music on, so then it sounds like it's mum is their.

    I hope this helps!

Otherwise in a couple of days or weeks it should get better!

If you dont mind sleeping with her, let her in your bed :)

  6. Okay, I'm going to assume that you have her because her mother died and not because you took a 5 week old puppy away from her mother.  You need to contact a vet or trainer or behaviorist to help you with ALL the issues involved in raising a puppy who is so young.  She will not receive the critical learning that would normally occur in her litter, so you will need to teach her about bite inhibition and how to be a dog.  There are lots of things that are happening in that litter other than simply nursing that humans just don't think about.  Please consult a professional *now* to save yourself a great deal of heartache in the future.

  7. 5wks old is WAY too young to be away from her mother.  She's crying bc she misses her mom.  Puppies are not supposed to leave their mother until they are 8-10wks old!!!

She is supposed to still be breastfeeding this puppy!!!

  8. 5 weeks old is very Young.  Try this.  Put a blanket or a pillow in the crate.  Get a wind up tick tock clock and put it under the blanket or pillow.  The sound should be soothing for the pup and help it sleep.  Make sure you have blankets and towels for the little thing to keep warm in.

  9. let her cry herself to sleep. it will take a while though

  10. Let her cry.  You can also try putting a wind-up clock inside a warm towel or something inside the crate to simulate the mother's heart beat (something that's constant). That might help her relax and go to sleep.

  11. The crying at night usually lasts about a week.  But what are you doing with a 5 week old puppy?  It should still be with its mother and siblings!  It is illegal  where I live to sell a puppy less than 8 weeks old.  Dogs that are taken from their mothers too young develop lifelong behavior problems, usually (but not always) destructive chewing.  It doesn't matter that the pup was already weaned.  It still needs time with its family.  Take it back to the breeder and pick it up in 3 weeks.  Don't ignore this advice.  It's IMPORTANT.

  12. There is no way this pup should be weened from its mother at five weeks.  Wait at least until 8, but preferrably 10-12 weeks.  If you got this pup from a breeder never go there again and try to get it back to its mother fro at least another 3-4 weeks.

  13. Congratulations on your furry baby! Why did you get her so young? This comes from one of the most respected dog trainers in our area:

This method will help you train your dog to stay in a crate, and also to stop whining or barking, while the dog is crated. It might feel as though you are reinforcing a problem behavior, but that's not really the case.

You'll need plenty of wonderful treats (like pieces of chicken or beef).

    • Put your dog in the crate and sit right next to it.

    • Every 30 seconds or so, whether or not the dog is whining, crying, or barking, drop a piece of food into the crate. After a few minutes of this (or less), the dog will stop whining and begin to look expectantly for the upcoming treat.

    • Keep feeding treats, but now lengthen the time between feedings - to one minute, then two minutes. After about five minutes, stop giving him the treats and let him out of his crate.

    • The next session should be later that same day. Move from 30-second intervals to 60-second intervals quickly, and then up to two or three minutes.

    • Get up and move around, but keep returning to the crate at regular intervals and give him a treat.

    • Next session, begin by giving him the treat upon entering the crate, and one every five minutes or so. Lengthen the time he's in the crate and the time the treats come. The treats always cease abruptly when the dog comes out.

Chances are, by this time, your dog will be crate trained!
