  1. It is best to get him evaluated by a learning specialist.  He may be dyslexic.

  2. no.. its the same as 's' some kids write it backwards, but after practise, they learn to do it the right way.

    Good luck

  3. Don't you know? Writing your L upside down and backwards is cool now.

  4. he might be dyslexic but you can't tell just by one letter, its quite common at this age to get letters backwards.  Talk to his school counselor if you're concerned so they can test him.

  5. Like the others have said, this is quite common at this age. The children know the letters, but they like to experiment with different ways of doing things. It most likely won't last long, especially if he is starting to do more with letters in school.

  6. nope ...........       if you are concerned............   have him write his ABCs for you once a day all summer long.  or a couple times a week?    print out some trace sheets if you want.

backwards letters on a couple letters is fine.     if over half  of his letters are screwy.............they take him to get evaluated.

  7. It's not uncommon, he is still kind of young to be tested for anything. Give it some time.

  8. This is normal. He should grow out of it by second grade. Most Dr's will not test for dyslexia until 8-9 anyway

  9. My 6-yr-old writes several symbols (numbers and letters) backwards and his first-grade teacher told me to be concerned at this point only if he can't recognize the symbols when specifically asked what they are. I also knew a girl who wrote everything backwards ( even complete words, as if you were looking in a mirror), and she is now an intelligent third-grader who's outgrown her former problem.

  10. No this is quite common at this age. Children will also right other letters backwards too. It doesn't mean he has dyslexia or a disability. Give him plenty of time to practice. He will eventually get it. My daughter is extremely bright and just turned 5 and still will get her b and d mixed up.

  11. No, both my kids did that with certain letters (more than one) and numbers. Their kindergaten teacher said they do not worry about it until the end of 1st grade, as long as it is in the correct sequence its fine.  I also volunteer in the class and correct papers for her and the majority of the class does it. My oldest is in 2nd grade now and rarely does it.

  12. I DON'T THINK SO. HE WILL GROW OUT OF IT. MY DAUGHTER GETS HER "d'S" AND "b'S" MIXED UP AND SHE'S 9!

  13. He's 5. give him a break. he'll get to it at his own time. just make sure to point out the mistake and correct it (don't reprimand him for committing the mistake, help him get it right) EVERYTIME he commits it.

  14. he is still learning those literacy rules- he will be fine
