  1. It called a scored cylinder wall> ring damage> engine needs to be dissembled cyc bored and new piston ringers bearings>

  2. When you acquired this motor would it start at all?

Is this a cross-flow or looper?

"marks on the top" -- you mean on the piston crown?

Without a head gasket, the pistons might've been striking the spark plugs, but it wouldn't have had any compression on either hole, and it sure wouldn't have started.

Depending on what you mean by "marks", could be as simple as a head gasket, ($500?) but probably you'll need at least one cylinder honed maybe sleeved, that's a lot of money.  And you've got to find out what caused it to fail, or else your money will be wasted.

Depending on how old the motor is, your better off looking for a new motor -- or a good powerhead on a blown lower unit.  Unless you can do the work yourself, that is.

  3. your into big agro

if your in florida i have one in bits in the roof of the gagage.

first  you need head gasket  then check compression .

if no compression its the rings  gone  bby .

if the rings are  bby   its a ***** to strip . I know .

check  timing thats another problem with the  belt on top .  but  the engine is 20 yrs old  bloody  heavy  and   you cnt get spares  so  its  a  no  go .
