  1. UMMM well what you want to know? Water is pulled into lower unit through 2 screened openings. A rubber impeller is connected to drive shaft that pulls it in and pushes it through the motor cooling ports. After cooling it is discharged through prop along with exhaust. On the side toward rear there is a small opening most boaters refer to a pee stream. This give boater a visual that the cooling system is working properly.

Under no conditions should you ever run motor dry or without a water hose muff that fits over lower unit openings or have lower unit submerged it water ( lake or large Barrel. you can burn up the impeller in less than 10 seconds running dry. This in turn can deposit rubber shavings throughout your cooling system keeping water for freely flowing.

  2. besides what the other guy told you before me make sure upon start up your motor spouts water in 4-8 seconds and dont start motor out of the water. If motor doesnt spit water in 8-12 seconds shut it off! Then you need to replace your waterpump. You can go to the library and get a book telling you how to do this or go to a marine dealer and buy the book or let them do it.

Before you do any of this make sure your water pee hole is clear of debris this is the water hose at the bottom of the motor that leads to the pee hole.

That motor should shoot a steady stream of water if it droops then that is a sign your water pump is getting weak.

I hope this helps since your question wasnt very direct!
