It's been stood now for nearly 4 days due to bad weather and my ill health I know 4 a fact the minute I take all security locks off and try to start it it'll be a pain in the A****! (i e smoke blowing out of the exhaust big style and struggling 2 move off)

Any ideas and advice to sort this would be appreciated.

  1. Yes, most likely needs a bit of a service - spark plug & filter, but it could be more complicated if it's one of the cheap Chinese machines.

  2. That's normal for a 2 stroke engine, smoke will clear and it will stop struggling once the engine has warmed up.

  3. Try a new Spark-plug

  4. try some wd40 on the spark plug cap.lead and coil.............could be suffering from damp electrics if its been left outside in the rain

  5. What happens on a two stroke is that some of the gas left in the cylinder and in the crankcase (assuming this is a two cycle engine) will evaporate and the oil wont.

So when you start the engine it will run a little rich for the first couple of minuets until the fresh gas takes over. There is really no way to compensate for this action but to just let the engine warm up before you take off with it. This will give you a little more power when starting off rather than having a oil laden engine try to move you.

In retrospect you might want to check the two cycle oil you are using.

When it comes to oils the old adage "you get what you pay for" really rings true!! A good quality oil from a motorcycle shop will do wonders for you, not to mention your engine. Saving a couple of bucks on  some cheap off brand oil purchased at a discount store wont really be so cheap when your engine seizes up.

By the way, there isn't anything wrong with Chinese, Japanese or Korean engines either.
