  1. Is it an hd ready tv ? Need more details like make and model etc etc ! You may need a digital converter box !

  2. The TV signal must be broadcast in HD in order for your TV to decypher the signal. After 2/09 analog signals will be obsolete and all TV will be in HD.

  3. The three most likely causes of your problem are:

    1

The TV hasn't been told to scan for digital channels. Unlike analog channels, digital channels numbers are like names. All DTV's and converter boxes have a place in their menus to "scan" all possible digital channels. It then remembers where the channels are located.

    2.

There aren't any digital channels being input into the TV. If you have analog only cable or you are using an antenna in an area with poor reception or serviced by translators, there may just not be any digital channels to receive. Check the first link below to find out where your local digital transmitters are located.

    3.

Your digital tuner is broken or you really have a "HD ready" TV (which doesn't have a digital tuner).

In North America, analog and digital TV over the air broadcasts use the same antennas. But DTV can be picky about signal quality, so you might need a better antenna.

If you need clarification, be sure to add the make & model of the TV and  what the source of your TV signals is, If you are using an antenna, include your zip code, how a good is your analog reception with your current antenna, and what kind of antenna it is.
