  1. The best advice I can suggest is to have him hunt with an older dog. There are also trailing scents you can but along with drag dummys for getting them started. Apply the scent to the dummy and drag it along the ground with a long lead. Do simple straight line tracks first then make it more complicated. This will help him get in tune with tracking. But it's best to have him learn from a good dog that doesn't chase deer. That will be the hardest thing to do, breaking him from running deer.

  2. well the best way that i have found is to kill a coon and chop off its tail. find a small area and let your dog smell the scent of the coon on the tail. Now dont let your dog see you do this next step or it ruins it. Rub the tail on the ground, in trees or wherever from the spot where your dog will be entering the training area. Oh yea before you start all this let your dog smell the tail and give him a treat or if he plays fetch let him smell it then make him bring it back and give him a treat. But back to the training repeat this process till he gets it every time. Also if he is a rather smart dog so him you dont like the coons and maybe he will follow in your footsteps.

Hope this helped and have fun with it
