  1. It's your responsibility to check that puppies are vaccinated, and healthy.  If the dog didn't have parvo when it left the seller, and you were aware that it wasn't vaccinated, the seller is not responsible.

  2. Do you have your vet's word that it was Parvo?  If you can prove it, then YES, the breeder is responsible.  No one in their right mind should have sold a puppy that young.  Unfortunately, your puppy came from a lousy breeder/puppy mill.  You ought to be able to get your money back.  Do not buy or accept another dog from that person.

  3. Depends on what your contract says. If it says they don't cover parvo then you are out of luck. Parvo has a 7-10 day incubation period.

  4. if you have papers stating the dog had parvo shots then mabey they can be held accountable for, however, they could say some shots dont work like they needed to or was a faulty shot ect.. mabey you should have checked that out yourself aslo. that is sad though :(

  5. as soon as you but a puppy you should always get it checked up at the vet. and also when you buy a puppy make sure it already has had its firt vaccination and been wormed. thats what i do. so you should take it to the vet as soon as you bought it for a check up and the second vacination.

if the vet said it has had parvo before you bought it then you should take it back to the owner and make sure you get your money back..

but if the vet says it just got it then thats your problem because its not the sellers fault that it caught that disease when it wasnt in thir arms anyway.

you should of got it vaccinated nad checked up straight away.

    at least now you know..

    whats parvo anyway??

  6. at 6 weeks old you never should have had the pup at all. I am very sorry for your loss, but at that age and the conditions it had to have been born into in order to have parvo at 6 weeks (unless you got the puppy early and knew it wasn't vaccinated and still took it to "doggy'places"), you probably would have lost it anyways unless you had the ability to keep up with it 24/7 more than with a new born child just to keep up with it. but most states have the age limit of 8 weeks. Depending on where you live he could be charged, though I am not sure with the responsibility of the puppy dying from parvo, with selling the puppy before the legal age.And with that, he would more than likely be charged with animal neglect/cruelty......where did you buy this puppy?

ALWAYS!!!! When you get a new pet, of any kind, take it to a vet for at the least a check-up and ask the seller for vaccination proof, if they don't have it, it is public knowledge if you know the prior owners first and last name....if the breeder refused, there is something wrong

  7. I am not sure how this would work in the legal scheme of things. If the seller would allow a pup to leave before 8 weeks at the earliest then I am sure they will not take responsibility for this.

You should always make sure you know as much about your breeder as you can.  We spoke and emailed the breeder we got our Cairn from every night for a week.  It wasn't until we were sure she was absolutely concerned with her Dogs' health that we even went to see them.

As long as people continue to buy (normally cheap) puppies from puppy mills there will continue to be that neglect.  They are living animals, adopted members of our family, not just play toys.  We should respect that.

  8. The puppy was much too young to be taken away from its mother.  They should not be separated until the puppy is at least 8 weeks old and preferably 10 weeks old.  Do you know definitely that the puppy had parvovirus?  Poor little thing, never stood a chance.  Irresponsible breeder!

  9. yes it is the sellers folt if he new it had parvo and try to get youre money back

  10. you bought a 6 week old puppy! they shouldnt even leave their mother till 8 weeks!

  11. Well  how long did you have the puppy? The incubation period on parvo is 7-10 days. If you have had the puppy for longer than that period it would be your responsibility. Its your responsibility to get a vet check on the puppy when you first buy it and to keep him or her updated on all of her vaccinations and de-worming. It is also your responsibility to keep your puppy away from other dogs and to not let a lot of people pet and hold hr and keep her in your home area til she has had all of her vaccinations. Other wise you are putting her at risk for getting parvo.

  12. depends on what your contract says.

Considering that you were sold a 6 week old pup.. you probably have a very crappy contract that wont cover parvo.

  13. a six week is too young to take 8-12 is best. i hope you had her vacs available and did she have a health guarantee? next if she wont give you your money or pup back, see if she is licensed, if not you got her did you see the other pups condition and where they lived? turn her in to humane society if not good shape or if not licensed or you can check to see if she is, im sorry to hear about the pup please when you get one look at age the age and vacs ask about guarentees and license and take to vet asap for check up good luck to you and sorry bout ur loss

  14. Possibly, you will have to check your states lemon laws. When you got your puppy they probably told you you had to see a vet in 24 hours or some nonsense to be covered for any sickness or genetic fault in your dog, well that may not correlate with the lemon law in your state so definitely check.

  15. In my state it would be illegal to sell this puppy; it was too young.  So, in that sense, yes they are most definitely responsible.  You don't say how long you had it, so it is hard to say where it contracted the parvo.  Contact the breeder and see if the other puppies are sick.  Chances are that if your pup got sick before leaving there then the entire litter has it.
