  1. ADHD is a disability?

I don't even believe in the thing, and people are talking about it as a disability?

    What a joke.

  2. since when is ADHD a disability?

  3. ADHD isn't a disability. However, obesity is, so keep loading her up chocolate bars that make her overactive and let her gain about 300lbs, then you can file for disability. Seriously never understood why the really fat people get the disability plates to park closer to wal-mart, should make em park in the back and have em walk the mile to the front door, might do em some good.

  4. No.  But you could ask the school to evaluate her for a 504 or IEP in case her ADHD will impact her ability to learn.  But, you won't get any $ out of it.

  5. adhd isnt a disability its a excuse.

  6. My son Thomas is ten and he has severe autism he is also non verbal and still in nappies ..he cannot wash or dress himself cannot be left alone he doesn't sleep except for a few hours a night...if your son isn't like mine then no you will not get ss money ....we had to fight to get help for Thomas he is in fact entitled to this now ...i wish a short attention span was all we had to cope with ..

  7. i've answered this before-there has to be extenuating circumsatnces (significant complecations)-

I can search mh answers and locate it again-

but, generally, no ADHD alone doesn't get SSI-if all conditions like that did-it woudl be a financial disaster for teh government.

    here is a website

    http://www.disabilitysecrets.com/adhd-at...

    1. Marked impairment in age-appropriate cognitive/communication function.

    2. Marked impairment in age-appropriate social functioning.

    3. Marked impairment in age-appropriate personal functioning.

most people with ADHD do not meet the 'marked' criteria

there are also household income limits

  8. ADHD is NOT considered to be a Disability. She will not qualify for SSI or for SSDI.

ADHD does NOT affect a person's intelligence, or a person's physical movement, or a person's "Activities Of Daily Living" like taking care of oneself  (dressing, walking, going to the bathroom, etc,), or person's ability to speak, see, hear, or a person's social functioning, or a person's ability to work for a living, and etc, etc, etc.

SSI AND SSDI is strictly reserved for people who are truly Disabled. ADHD is NOT a true Disability.

  9. Geez--people get disability for anything these days.  Maybe you can teach her to give birth to 12 kids to so she can have more of my money.  Don't forget that free house now.

  10. Why would or should she get a disability check?   Does her condition impair her ability to earn a living?   Oh...no, you support your six year old, don't you?   Well, does her condition cause a lot of additional expenses for your family?   I doubt it.  Why should the already overburdened Social Security system pay your six year old?

  11. h**l no! Quit trying to make money off the kids condition.

  12. My son has been diagnosed since he's been 5 he's now 10 and I never heard of collecting disability checks.  It's not really a disability he functions just fine plays sports all year around and as long as he takes his adderall in the morning before school he does great in class.  He was in Child Study team for a couple years but his grades are so good they put in regular classes the only thing he gets is special instructions and extra time during testing.

  13. i doubt it

  14. Just because a child has ADHD it doesn't mean they can't do all the things that a child who doesn't can. It's not a physical disability.

My son has ADHD and I wouldn't even consider collecting any money off him. However they can get extra help at school through the education centers in your area. She needs to be evaluated for an IEP and go from there. I think you should know that kids with ADHD are actually extremely smart they just need to earn how to use certain skills to bring it out.

It takes alot of time and patience but with the right resources these kids thrive just like everyone else.

I honestly hope that you are not disappointed by this because if you are I feel sad.

To those of you who said it's not a disability but an excuse, I feel sad for you because as a parent who lives with it the last thing that is allowed is excuses for behavior that it sometimes

out of their hands. Never do I allow my child to use his condition as an EXCUSE for anything. If anything it only makes him work harder and try harder then others.
