  1. Use a taxi first... tell him to drive you to the train (tren ligero) station, I recommend the Periferico Sur station. It takes about 25 minutes. There you can go to downtown, leave the train at Juarez station and take the other train. At that point you can take the Plaza de la Tecnogología station. There you are at the main downtown of Guadalajara. It takes amoung 40 to 60 minutes to reach this point. You can go to a tourist informational center and ask for info. There are many interesting places that you cannot go without visiting them such as Teatro Degollado, Instituto Cabañas, Catedral, Plaza  Tapatía... it is such a great place xD

  2. I lived in Guadalajara for over 25 years, I moved out last year, the first thing you have to consider is that you'll need around 1 hour to go from the airport to any interesting place and the same time to go back, I'd recommend to take a taxi and try to see the downtown really quickly, even when you don't go inside the buildings, the architecture is amazing, is a colonial city.  Other thing you can do is go to Plaza Galerias (a mall) is the largest in Latin-American, you can catch that movie that someone told you, but do it in the VIP movie theater, is a nice experience for the same rate than a normal movie here.

Finally close to the airport is a small town part of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara called Tlaquepaque, you can fin amazing crafts and things there.

  3. Unfortunately the idea of a bus going from an airport to the downtown is not very common in Mexican cities. The taxi is probably your only option. I would start at Hospicio Cabañas and try to walk toward the cathedral.

Tlaquepaque is actually closer to the airport than the historic center. It is a former indigenous village that has become absorbed into the metropolis. It is very pretty, but without the impressive architecture of Guadalajara proper. The display of crafts and antiques is amazing.

  4. Go catch a movie.  Watch Dark Knight and see if you can understand even one word.

  5. Visit Tlaquepaque, there is a lot of art work there crafts, and restaurants, is pretty nice lot to see around and place with good food. take a cab will cost you like 20 usd, and in the way back to the air port should be cheaper.
