Hi, I'm going to have a 7 hour layover at the Newark airport. I usually like to take a bit of a drive out for some sight seeing. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks folks!

  1. Take a Train to Penn Station from Newark Airport (EWR) and see some sights in New York City. That would be your best bet.

  2. Just be careful in Newark at night...it is not the safest place....I have been told.

  3. If I am to assume your layover is during the day, then get a small map or mapquest North New Jersey, Southern New York State. Hop in your rental and go north toward the NJ,NY State border. That would be I-78 West to I-287 North, about an hour to the border. You will pass Morristown, NJ, very historical, you can stop at Jockey Hollow Park and see films of George and the Revolution in the snow-LOL. As you drive north, the scenery changes from suburbs to hills/mountains. You will see parts of the Pocono's as well as the lower Catskills as you get to the border. Look for the little village of Warwick, NY and Sugar Loaf Village, a really nice artist colony.

I grew up in that area and miss it-LOL Good luck and have fun.
