I tried using alcohol for 3 weeks but it did not heal. My doctor wants to use silver nitrite but I read that it can burn the skin and is toxic. I also read about the salt treatment currently used in the UK. I would like to have guidance on the salt treatment and hear from people who find it useful. I am currently in the US and all that is used is silver nitrite, which I want to avoid.

Just put a crystal of rock salt (cleaned with boiled and cooled water and dried) on the swelling. Keep it in place with leucoplast or a band- aid. The swelling disappears within a few days in most cases.
