problems with in the evenings. She won't go to sleep or stay in her bed. She keeps getting up repeatedly during the night. I need to set some kind of schedule but I'm not sure where to start. Meaning..dinner, homework, reading, down time, etc, etc. Any suggestions would be helpful. Or web sites would be much appreciated.

  1. Definitely set a routine up. Dinner, homework and family time, warm bath, reading then bedtime. As a kid, my parents made us read each night for at least 30 minutes in bed. It made us relax and get sleepy. Stay consistent because if she knows she can't buck the system she will learn to accept it. Good luck!

  2. You can't change everything at once because it doesn't work well when discipline is an afterthought. Starting out strict and letting up is the best way to work out a schedule...but it's too late for that.

The best way will probably be to let her help you with her schedule. If she has some input in it she is much more likely to follow through with it. Also, let her help decide her discipline if she doesn't follow her schedule. Adjust as needed but the most important thing is to be consistent. Whatever schedule you decide to follow-really follow it-all the time. Even build a few exceptions into the schedule but don't abandon it for other reasons.

    Good luck!

  3. 7 is old enough to lay down the law.

Engage her thoughts on how SHE"d like to see her evening run with some basic rules, like bedtime has to be at x'oclock and homework comes before TV and computer and such.  Then let her help decide what order to do things in.  You could get a sheet of paper, mark of the blocks of time and use post its for each activity.  Make an agreement and tell her she has to stick to it or some of the activities will be removed (such as tv time, etc)

  4. Easy. When MY parents told us to go to bed.We could get up to use the bathroom,if we kept getting up for anything else, they made us WISH we had stayed in bed.We got our butts spanked.

  5. Maybe you should have her run around outside or play for a while before bed. Before she goes to sleep, make sure she goes to the bathroom and give her some warm milk with a bit of peppermint in it, and she will go right to sleep.
