  1. that's a built in fail safe for saving your tires,,,,you don't have positive traction rear end,you more than likely have limited slip.as far as your car shutting down when you are going fast and turn,

maybe its trying to tell you something.most likely the fuel pump is running dry,or the floats in the carb are drying up for a second.you may want to consider an electric fuel pump instead of mechanical,if that's what you have ,if its still factory stock fuel delivery system,it is mechanical

  2. because you have an open differential in the rear axle.  This website will explain it in detail:

    http://www.howstuffworks.com/differentia...

There are aftermarket limited slip and locking differentials that you could replace your open diff with that would give you both tires burning rubber.

Your car shuts off because the fuel is spilling out of the carb at high speed turns and the engine is starving for fuel...

  3. the part about 1 tire moving is because on a non-posi car one wheel moves forward for forward applications and when you shift into reverse the opposite wheel moves in reverse for reverse applications.

Now on a positraction vehicle, there is pressure between the rear axle shafts inside the differential therefor making both wheels move forward or backwards.

  4. smoking the tires issue is because you have an open diff. meaning its not a limited slip or possi. your stall thing is probably fuel starvation. base model cars such as the skylark usually had open diff's because they weren't designed for performance like the GS would have been.

  5. The car has an open rear differential, where all the power will be distributed to the one wheel has lost traction. Look in to a positraction rear end, where power is delivered to both rear tires equally. At high speeds (high rpm), your car is starving for fuel. Could just be the float in the carb is to low, or your physically to low on gas. Maybe stop driving at high speeds and you won't have to worry about these things.

  6. its because the differencial does not lock both wheels together..the tire that will have less weight on it will peel.  positrack will lock  both.  since the engine turns counter clockwise ,from the driver seat, the body of thecar wants to turn clockwise thus putting less weight on the left rear tire . the stalling in a turn indicates that the fuel spills out of the carb reservoir  flooding the engine.. adjust the float to close sooner.
