  1. yeah i was gonna say 45 watts is a little underpowered. anyway your box should be pretty small for an 8 inch sub. it should also be ported. make the hole about 3 inches wide. it should be on one of the ends.

  2. With a subwoofer the box matters as much as the driver itself. You can't just make some randomly size box and put a hole in it like the last poster said, a box needs to be designed around the T/S parameters of the sub to make it sound best (or get loud, whatever your preference is). If you have the T/S parameters on the subwoofer, I would download a box dimensioning program called WinISD that will calculate the best internal volume for the box and the right port size and length if you choose to port the box. It can also give 4th and 6th order bandpass specifications, but I would hold off those types of boxes unless you are really good at carpentry because they are very picky with it comes to exact sizing.

If you can't find T/S pparametersfor your sub, the best thing would be to make a closed box that is roughly a cubic foot internally. This is very approximate but closed boxes give the most room for error while also being the easiest to make. Your 45W should be enough for a 8" woofer if you are using it in a home installation in a smaller room. It is always better to have more power for more headroom, but your sub will rarely get more than a few watts unless you really crank the volume.
