I have a 85 horse 4 stroke evinrude(outboard) how can i find out what year it is? any help.?

call evinrude and give them the serial number, actually any repair shop can probably look it up.

The year model can be on the serial number plate and sometimes is in the number itself. Should be located below the motor itself on a metal plate attached to the casing and visable without removing any parts, covers, etc. Call any dealer/repair shop and they will help.

The year of the motor is not contained in the serial number on Johnson/Evinrude outboards.  It is in the model #.  If you provide the model number I can tell you exactly what year your outboard is.  The model # is located on the serial # tag.

By model number. Yours will be E85____. There may be a letter before the E. Those letters have a code in them, INTRODUCES.

Take the second and third to last letters and plug them in to the introduces system-
