I press the gas it takes forever to rev up. I checked the transmission fluid and it's fine. Could I need a new transmission?

  1. If what you're saying is that your car revs up (RPM reaches above 2000 rpm) at a traffic stop but takes a while for you car to actually move forward, then your clutch disc maybe wearing down.

If you hear squeaking in your transmission as you release your clutch from 1st to 2nd gear, then that's a sure sign.  You should buy a new clutch disc replacement kit (comes w/ pressure plate bearing) from your local auto parts store for about $100 and find out the labor cost from various shops that will do the installation for you (if you don't have the tools to do the job yourself).

If this isn't repaired in time, you may find yourself revving up and never moving an inch.  By this time not only will your clutch disc be worn down completely but your flywheel may also need to be resurfaced/replaced (another $100 part from your local auto parts store).

    Good luck!
