  1. if 2 wheel drive -ball joints are riveted to control arms

and will have to be drilled or ground off

  2. If you bent the spindle, the entire spindle assembly needs replacing and that includes a new ball joint. reusing a balljoint isn't recommended as it's a "pressed in" part. The reason you don't see any nuts or bolts holding the ball joint in place is because it's pressed into the opening of the spindles where it resides. Most replacement spindles include the ball joint, if it doesn't, the ball joint is very inexpensive compared to a new spindle. Getting a used spindle at a junk yard is an option, but you must put a new ball joint on before reinstalling.

  3. suggest you buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual and spend some time reading it.

  4. Borrow a small electric right angle grinder and trim the rivet heads completely off and drive them back through the A frames. New ball joints come with brand new hardened nuts, bolts and lock washers. Automotive grave-yards ar filled with Chevy and GMC pick-ups with spindles that will work fine.

  5. when you finally do get the ball joint out...make sure you support the control arm otherwise the spring will release with great force and could cause injury or death.

Get the repair manual. If you don't want to pay for one then go to the library and copy the info you need.

  6. it has bolts rather a nut.theres a upper ball joint and a lower, probably need a tuning fork and a spring compresser. pick a spendel up at da boneyard

  7. 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel?     Anyway eiher way you have to bust loose 2 BIG nuts that hold the spindle to the ball joint.   The ball joint is riveted to the control arms from the factory so you have to drill those out to remove the ball joint.

But....you just have to loosen and remove the spindle nuts on the ball joints to remove the spindle.  May be tigh...but if you have to take all of that apar...might as well change the joints also.

I can walk you thru it if you want...Get the tire off yet???

  8. when you pull the rotor you'll see the screws

  9. You have to drill it out.
