I have a 94 toyota camry, I recently had an oil change and tune-up done because my check-engine light came on

the light is still coming on any ideas what it could be? where can I find out about recalls and defects for this year and model?

Today, cars are controlled by on board computers. The fuel injectors, the spark plugs, the steering system and more are all told when to fire and when to move by an on board computer system.  

The best thing to do when your check engine light appears is to bring your vehicle to the reputable repair shop for diagnose.

check engine lite, could be anything... a tune-up, would not resolve the issue.

you can call california, or the nearest toyota dealer, and give them the vin number, and they can pull up the history

could be a gas cap loose.... a sensor...  

the computer holds a lot of codes....

you need the dealership to put it on there computer

What made you think an oil change and a tune up would make the light stay off? The words tune up doen't even mean anything anymore. Lord knows what they actually did. You need to have the code read and the problem repaired. This does not mean just changing whatever part name comes up in the error code. Those codes are only guides to the circuit causing the problem, not necessarily the specific part. You need a certified mechanic, not the neighbors kid or just some guy with tools.

Usually the check engine light means there is something a-miss in the emissions system.  It could be anything from not having the gas cap on tight to gummed up fuel injectors.

As Michelle said, you need to take to someone that can hook up to a system that can read the codes.  You don't have to take it to a Toyota dealer, but you do need to ask the mechanic if they have a system that can read the check engine codes.
