I've rechecked everything,do I need to put gas in float bowl or prime carb in some other way?

  1. You could get a can of starting fluid, spray some in the intake and see if it starts, If it starts and dies, you have a fuel delivery problem. Could be the fuel pump, or the filter could be clogged.

  2. Check to see if the float is stuck closed. It may have gotten bent or jammed. The bowl should be filling by itself. Perhaps a plugged or air blocked fuel line?

  3. Is there a primer bulb in the fuel line? If not you can add one in. It probably needs primed before you start it.

  4. on most mercruisers there are two fuel pumps. one inline that pumps fuel when you turn on the key. another at the engine. never use starter fluid on a marine engine in the bilge. fire hazard.
