Question:

I have a 98 cavalier with a cracked engine block?

i have no money but i have an engine and a transmission from a 94 cavalier...the 98 cav with the cracked block is an automatic the engine from the 94 cav has a manual tranny...will it work...i read that its hard to switch trans with autos and manuals but im switching both i just need to get a shifter interior and exterior boot and a clutch pedal assembly right? will it work?

  1. Just sell the car for scrap.  It would cost several thousand to convert your car from an automatic to manual.  Your car even if running properly would only be worth about $1k.  


  2. I would go to a junk yard and see what all is involved in this swap. They have books that tell what parts are interchangable. You may have to get axles for a manual also. I swapped a manual into a 79 Chevy truck and it was easy, just took the auto brake petal out and replaced it with the clutch and brake petal off a 73 Blazer along with all the linkages and cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. Depending on what they charge you for the parts at the junk yard it probably will be cheaper than getting another car. Good luck.

  3. it will actually be easier if you put the good motor on the auto trans all you have to do is swap flywheels if they are the same size engine. It will be easiest to pull the whole sub frame and then swap motors.
