  1. the bike was designed for stock pipes. any change will change the milage. try a tune up first then go to a dealer who knows the ins and outs of the bike. talk with them and see if the pipes will change the milage for the worst. they can tune to optimize the greater air flow.

  2. You are not going to get any better mileage with custom pipes and opened up the carbs.  I bet the bike is really loud and fast, you paid for performance..

  3. My 2000 Shadow 1100 got about 40mpg (all stock).  Straight pipes and adjusted carbs aren't going to help your cause.  My 1650cc, straight piped chopper gets about 30mpg.  You maybe want to take it into a shop and let them know what is up.  It may be something, but then again, it may not.

  4. I like how most motorcycle riders try and justify their purchase by claiming they're saving money on gas and then post up stuff like 30MPG and 40MPG lol...  I only paid 2K for a brand new scooter that gets 90+MPG and it goes 60MPH... plenty fast.  I fill up once every 2 weeks and ride it back and forth to work every day.

  5. It may be running a little rich, depending on carb adjustment. Were the carbs rejetted? Does it still have the stock air filter? If the carbs weren't rejetted and you still have the stock air filter there shouldn't have been much adjusting of the carbs to do. I would have them checked again. You should be getting better mileage than what you are.

Take it to mechanic YOU know then you'll be sure it's done right.

  6. That is HORRIBLE!  I get better mileage in my car.  It could be something simple like a filter or a small leak or it could be something bigger so I would take it in to get looked at.  With gas prices like they are it will be cheaper to get it fixed then to get bad fuel mileage.  Good luck!

  7. yes, have it looked at...
