I have a 99 mercury cougar, is it possible to see what codes set the engine light off myself?

i know you can take it to autozone and get it checked but im wondering if i can see them myself.

hey you have to find the data link connector and if you use a paper clip you can get the light to flash codes it will be a 16 pin use the 4th over from the left on the top and the third over from the right on the bottom

Sometimes, you can disconnect the cable from the battery and wait 5 minutes, than re-connect the battery, it may re-set the engine light.
