  1. I had a bt socket in my house and had it connected for free. You should only be charged if you dont have a bt socket because you already have the line and it just needs to be connected. I was told this by the bt engineer. the socket needs to have bt written on it or have the old telecoms sign the engineer will know.

  2. Try if possible to find out the number that the line was. There are two different types, the first is stopped which means its just been turned off, most likely if its the previous owners phone. This costs nothing to restart. The second is ceased which means its totally defunct and would be a new install. If you find out the old number itll help to find out what it is. Try plugging in a phone and dialling 17070. Unfortunately BT have started moving lines very quickly to cease which is purely so they can charge. Yes its totally wrong but hey the bigger you are the less rules apply to you.

  3. yep i  know  its  a rip off try  going  to talk  talk or  some one   like  that ,  i  did  only charge me  about  ÃƒÂ‚£30

  4. sadly not, u wouldnt have to pay if the line was already there and you had moved into a house which had been already lived in and they had the phone already

  5. That's a BT standard charge for a new connection.

BT doesn't have anything to do with the line connection nowadays all the service providers including BT contract the work out to a company called Open Reach that used to be part of BT.

Contact other service providers and see if you can get a better deal.

  6. No.  That's what the charge is.  Outrageous. Isn't it?
