  1. If the GVW is over 10,000 lbs, you need a medical examiner's certificate in addition to a US DOT number, Belong to a drug screening consortium and have a driver file in your office containing a driver qualification form, an application for employment, an I-9 form, a mvr on yourself and probably a few other things as well.

The laws are pretty confusing and a royal pain in the a$$. The best thing to do to be in compliance is call your state DOT enforcement office and ask to talk to an auditor. They will tell you exactly what you need.

Also, once you start your business, they will be out to audit you within 1 year to make sure you are in compliance. If you are not, they usually give you about 6 weeks to get your stuff together and prove you are in compliance.

  2. visit -

  3. If the GVW is over 26000 yes !!!  If under 26000 no,anyone can drive it as long as it doesn't have airbrakes !!  good luck !
