I have a Cocktail bird that is going to be giving to me?

I am not for sure how to take car of her, as far as the temp wize goes how should I keep my air set to keep my house set so she will not freez or to get to hot sho she will not get a cold and die. my kids are so excited to get her. and I was wondering about the feeding and anyother ideas about the foods they eat and the toys they play with. PLEASE help , (first time Bird Owner)

go in a shop ask 1 of the staff to show you the bird stuff.

it will have bird food there with a bird on the packet and for the toys they will have them to they ar shiny dangaly things also put sand paper at the bottom of the cage.

cockateils are fantastic pets-- very personable and loving birds. even if it's an adult with little handling by the previous owner, if you "bug" your new pet, he/she will come to love you.

give them lots of small-parrot toys as they like stuff to do in their cage.

your bird should have a varied diet- stay away from seed diets and mixes. if you can, get your bird on a complete pellet diet or something like nutriberries and supplement with fruit, veggies and other treats.

your bird shouldn't be directly placed in front of a window, heating or cooling unit/vent, but other than that- your bird will be fine and will adjust to what you keep your home at. in the summer, provide a dish for bathing and cooling off and spritz your bird with a spray bottle when it's warm out.

keep your bird's wings trimmed- this will reduce the chance of the bird getting hurt or lost and save you heartache.

have fun! get a book or two for future reference and the name of an avian vet...

Oh- PS-- if you can, keep your bird where all the family activities are because they like to be around their people and avoid isolation.
