I have a DVD player with DivX support, and I have an .avi DivX file. How to I get it onto a DVD so I can play it back on the DVD player?

I have access to both a Mac and a PC. I tried using the option in Toast Titanium, but my friend says it takes forever to encode (he said it took him up to 5 hours once), and I haven't tried my Nero yet.

Is there a way to get my .avi onto DVD in less than 2 hours? Without the use of other software that requires purchase.

  1. I would recommend you download ConvertXtoDVD. Ive been using it for a year now, on windows, never had a problem!

It will convert your video files to the dvd format readable by all standard dvd players, then burn automatically to DVD!

it is easy to use, fast and it works perfect for me.. give it a try, you'll love it

    1. Download ConvertXtoDVD from vso official site here:

    http://www.vso-software.fr/products/conv...

It can convert any video file.. like

avi, divx, xvid, mov, mkv, flv ,youtube,  mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg-, nsv, dvr-ms, tivo, ts, ifo, vob, asf, wmv, realmedia, rm, rmvb, ogm,

    2. Add or drag-n-drop as many video files as the DVD can handle

    3. Insert blank DVD

    4. Click "Convert"

    5. Enjoy watching those video files on your home DVD player! =)

ConvertXtoDVD has a lot of extra nice features too,

for example you can make your own DVD menu or auto-generate it, add subtitles, auto-burn to dvd or save your conversion.

  2. You may take a look at this guide, it's about how to convert and burn video to DVD on Mac, it works pretty well for me

  3. Like Steve says , burn it as a data disc using Nero.It will take maybe 10 minutes , usually a lot less. I do it all the time and 95% will play with no problem.

I have found that if it plays in WMP it will play on my dvd player

  4. If you already have the movie in .AVI format (DivX), then all you will need is to write it as data to a DVD-R or CD-R like you would any other file. If it is a valid divx file and you can play it in the DivX player on your PC, then your player should handle it fine. However, if you downloaded this file offline, it can be hard to tell how it was encoded. AVI files come in a lot of forms. For example, DivX & XviD, both use the avi extension. While these two are comparable for the most part, some players have difficulty decoding certain versions of XviD files. Also, the audio can be encoded in any number of formats. FLAC is popular, so is AC3, AAC, but mostly MP3 is used. So the short answer is to burn it to a disk, pop it in and see if it plays. If you are looking to encode a DVD to AVI, then you will need a special application for that like the DivX Converter or Handbrake. Also, if you are having trouble finding out what type of encoding was used on the file, try a small program called G-Spot. It will tell you more than you need to know. Finally, if your player has trouble with files encoded with newer versions of DivX, then you might be able to update the firmware of the player to support it. Philips does this. Good Luck!
