  1. There is a usb connection on my Direct TV DVR, the owners manual says it is for "future Items" and I cannot download the movies I have saved or anything from it.

  2. call customer service for help

  3. answerman is correct. the usb port on dish receivers can be used for there "pocket-dish" portable. dish has also just download an upgrade to all there dvr's. now; with a simple call to CS, u can have them unlock the usb port so u can connect any external hard-drive, or flash-drive. so u can add capacity to ur dish dvr. it s a 1-time fee of bout $40, per receiver.

  4. Hello,

The usb connection is for connecting a multimedia player made specifically for dish. It's called the pocketdish. Although your receiver may see other devices plugged into that port, it won't let you download movies to it, you have to buy a pocketdish or an Archos unit. If you buy one from archos, you have to pay and install an application that allows you to download movies from your DVR to your Archos player. I bought the Archos one and I love it, you can play games on it, watch movies, play music and lots of other stuff. It's really cool for traveling. Here are some links to get more information.
