A friend has a sunbeam and empties it weekly if that. Her tank is much smaller than mine is also. I don't understand how AC units work so maybe someone can give me some suggestions on why this would be? Thanks.

  1. Part of the air conditioning process involves removing the humidity from the air. Some air conditioners reuse this water in the cooling process itself -- my portable Sunpentown does this, and I only have to empty it at the end of the season. But some air conditioners don't reuse any of the water they take in, so you have to empty them constantly.

It's not unusual; most window air conditioners also collect water. It's just not as noticeable because it drips outside.
