I have a Denon 3808 receiver and the audio drops out while viewing cable tv .?

The cable box is connected via HDMI to the receiver. Reconnecting the TV/Cable connection works but this happens almost every commercial break.

  1. HDMI is peculiar. HDMI uses a process called handshaking where components kind of introduce themselves to each other whenever they turn on. Sometimes source components don't give out a steady stream of audio signal and the receiver might try to "handshake" again which would cut out the audio while it does so but usually the video too. The other thing might be the transition between a 5.1 signal and stereo signal. The receiver would drop out the audio for a second while it detects the new signal and changes the sound mode.

    If you mean that the audio goes away and doesn't come back then that isn't it. If commercial audio never plays check the audio settings on the cable box.
