I have a English 1982 20 pence coin where the lettering and centre areas are painted(?) red. Anyone know why?

  1. I'm not sure. the 20p was introduced in 1982 and I have never heard or red anything of there being red on it. Could it have been painted by someone unofficially or reacted to something over the years?


  2. Maybe it has been enamelled.  People do that sometimes to make them into necklaces. Maybe on an 18th birthday give a necklace with a coin from the year of birth.

  3. Because sombody's toddler probably got hold of the money box and felt creative.

  4. It's been sabotaged by a Lancastrian.-Red Rose.
