Yes, this is the same story when I play golf.

I think that my fear of success overpowers my fear of failure. I am stuck in the part of my life where NOTHING is happening because of my fears holding me back.

What can I do really? Ive been like this for aslong as I can remember and I dont want to be like this forever. There have been moments of blillance in my life but I cant just seem to recreate my mental state during those times.

Can the people around me be holding me back from my true potential? I know I can do more... but my psychology on things right now are wrong.

What do I do? Help?

  1. Drink beer when playing golf...if that doesn't work see a shrink.

  2. You'll hear any golf pro or teacher say that you have to develop a pre-shot routine.  It can be whatever gets you to be comfortable to hit the kind of shot you want to hit.  You have to do the same thing every time.  Go to the range to develop that routine.  You can carry this over to the rest of your life.  It's called preparation.  You have to be organized.

  3. Fear of success is not uncommon at all in golf.  I know all about it. We all have a "comfort zone".  When you are playing well and you get out of this comfort zone, you can begin playing defensively and ruin the round or least back up into your comfort zone.  When you are playing well, force yourself to continue to be aggressive.  Focus on the process, and not the results.  Change how you define success.  Define success like this. If I make up my mind completely and commit myself to this club selection and this target, go through my routine and trust what i'm doing, regardless of where the ball goes, I've succeeded.  Sometimes we forget the process and just start standing over shots hoping and praying something good happens. Good Luck!

  4. Well I guess we all have felt that feeling at some point , but the truth of all is: if you are not out there trying to face and over come your fears you will feel like that for a very long time. It does not really matter if you win or loose in life as long as you you pursue the things you want in this world. Try to believe in your self more , visualize success , dream it ,feel it , and most important do everything you can to obtain it. Try to all ways have a positive thoughts and avoid negative ones.

  5. Fear is the opposite of FAITH. Place your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and there will be no reason to fear anything.

  6. You need to see Monk's psychologist.

  7. I think you will need to figure out the why's before you can look at solving the problems. Why are you scared of succeeding, all of us have a fear of failure. The fear of failure is relatively easy to fix - you simply ask yourself "Whats the worst thing that can happen if I fail?" Once you know this you can come to terms with it, and move on. The fear of failure is like those old horror movies that don't show you the monster till the very end - the reason being that once you've seen it you get used to it and it becomes normal. Your imagination is more scary than any movie monster.

The fear of success is a bit more tricky, but once again, if you can figure out which part of success is scary - then you can deal with the real issues, not the percieved ones.

People around you can definitely hold you back ... but only if you let them. If some one elses opinion about you matters more than your own, then you can see what the problem is, the fact that you need someone else to validate your opinions. What you need to do is look at making yourself the person who's opinion matters the most to you, not anyone else... think about it ....

But that of course if just my opinion isnt it???
