  1. Not sure what you are asking.  blu ray is a dvd format that plays dvds in HD.  It only plays dvds that are blu ray and not your standard dvds.  blu ray seems to be winning the hd dvd battle. Blu ray in my opinion will come out on top.  All dvds play sound that is made with surround sound.  HD and standard all play surround.  Hook any player up to a surround sound amp, add the speakers and the sub which makes a huge difference and you are good to go.

  2. For TJ. Blu-Ray players WILL play standard DVDs and can upscale them to make them look better on HDTVs. Also Blu-Ray already won. HD DVD is going Bye-Bye. It was even reported on Fox News this morning although with many technical inaccuracies.

  3. there are not currently any boxed ht sysyems with an intergrated blu-ray player, only stand alone blu-ray players are being offered as of now. you can though get new recievers that play what is being called dolby true hd sound, which is a pure digital transfer of the 5.1 or 7.1 downmix from a blu-ray disc. stand alone blu-ray players will also still hook up to a regular 5.1 reciever and provide excellent audio.  blu-ray has for all intents won the format war. while not necessarily better picture and sound wise, sony has gained the support of almost all of the major movie studios. and the vast majority of large retailers, so hd-dvd is dead.

  4. I doubt there are any integrated Blu-ray HTIBs (Blu-ray Home Theatre in a Box) for several reasons. First Blu-ray players are $300+, which is inconsistent with the low price point rationale for an integrated HT. Second, most people who choose to buy an integrated HT don't have a high end HDTV.

You would be best to avoid all-in-one systems since they are generally poorer performers, and often poorer quality. If something goes wrong or you wish to upgrade you have a problem because you often can't replace or upgrade that component.

Blu-ray is only of interest to someone with a high end HDTV ... which you have. But it's a premium price format that costs much more to buy and "feed" than a DVD player.

A Blu-ray player replaces a DVD player and hooks up to a HT system and HDTV.
